Auction of Vicarage furniture 1855
When Reverend Henry Alexander Douglas left Abbotsley and England in 1855 he arranged for local auctioneer William Medland to sell by auction his furniture and other contents. Interesting to see that amongst the contents were Ale Casks !
The Reverend Douglas was educated at Balliol College, Oxford. After leaving Abbotsley he was Dean of Cape Town and subsequently he became the third Bishop of Bombay. He came from a distinguished family and his brother John Douglas was the Premier of Queensland, Australia.
Henry Douglas died on 13th December 1875.
